Montana residents have 18 days to apply for a property tax rebate of up to $675 per taxpayer.

The online portal set up by the state allows residents to apply for the tax rebate through Oct. 1. Residents can also apply for the rebate via a paper form.

TRUMPISM 2.0: INSIDE THE FORMER PRESIDENT'S PLANS FOR A SECOND TERM

“Property taxes are too high, which is why we prioritized and secured immediate property tax relief for Montanans this legislative session. Now, it’s time to build on reforms to reduce the burden of property taxes over the long term," Gov. Greg Gianforte (R-MT) said in a statement about the program earlier this summer.

To be eligible for the payment, taxpayers must have owned and lived in a residence in the state for at least seven months and are required to have been billed and paying for the property taxes on the residence during the 2022 tax year.

The amount each taxpayer receives from the program is equivalent to the amount paid in property taxes for his or her "principal Montana residence," with a limit of up to $675 for the payment. Only one rebate will be sent out from the state per property.

Accepted applicants will receive their rebate within 30 days of filing the application on the online portal or up to 90 days after filing a paper application. An identical property tax rebate program in the state will also be available to eligible residents in 2024 based on tax year 2023.
