There are only a couple of days left for eligible residents of California to apply for a direct payment of $4,000, with recipients free to spend the money in any way they see fit.
The payment is part of a program known as the Recovery Action Fund for Tomorrow from the nonprofit organization Jewish Family Service. Applications for this payment opened on May 8, and they will close on Sunday at 11:59 p.m., according to the organization.

These payments will be for San Diego residents who meet eligibility requirements, including having at least one child under the age of 18, being a senior who is at least 55 years old, or being a disabled adult. The applicant's household income must also be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, which is $29,160 for a household of one and $60,000 for a household of four.
Applicants must also reside in one of 39 San Diego County Health Equity ZIP codes, all of which are specified online.
Applicants who want to join the program can do so online, and in-person application help will be available at several locations, including the San Diego Central Library and the Price Family YMCA.

Recipients for this payment will be selected via a lottery system, with payments being issued in two waves: the first in June and the second in August. The payments will be distributed in the form of a prepaid debit card sent in the mail, or they can be picked up at designated locations.
This program is one of several income programs taking place in the state of California. Another program, the Pathway to Income Equity pilot program, sent payments of $500 to 305 families in Sonoma County on Wednesday and is expected to send its next payment to recipients on June 21.
