Those interested must have been a homeowner in city limits for five continuous years, and the house must have a property tax value of less than $250,000.
The City Council of Greensboro approved a pilot program in March 2023 designed to provide relief to low-income homeowners who have had their property taxes increase due to revaluations, inflation, or increased budget spending.
The city government allocated $250,000 for the program, and the applicant period opened in mid-April, with the previous deadline to apply set for June 15 before the final cutoff was extended.
The maximum rebate amount is set at $150, and the amount households will receive depends on the difference between the homeowner's property taxes paid in 2021 and what was paid in tax year 2022. The smallest amount one can receive from this rebate is $50.
