More than eight in 10 voters support President Donald Trump’s job of hunting down and deporting illegal migrants who have committed crimes in the United States, the latest sign that his top issue continues to be embraced in America.
Amid a swirl of legal challenges proposed by Democrats and liberal humanitarian groups, 83% of likely voters in the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets said they believe deporting criminal illegal immigrants is important.

Just 13% said it is not important. What’s more, said Rasmussen, most in the survey, 57%, said finding and deporting the illegal immigrants is “very important.”
Unlike their opinions on virtually every other Trump agenda item, all demographic groups said it was important to kick criminal illegal immigrants out. Among Hispanics and African Americans, 80% support Trump, for example.
Trump promised that his second administration would first focus on tracking down criminal illegal immigrants to deport. His team has so far rounded up thousands to deport, and despite opposition from Democrats, many courts have given the policy a green light.
Still, he has faced opposition from the most radical leftists who continue to call for the elimination of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
While a huge majority are united on the importance of deporting illegal immigrants, the nation appears conflicted or confused over pro-illegal immigrant sanctuary policies that exist in 47 states and Washington, D.C.
When asked what they think of sanctuary states that “have policies that restrict state and local officials from cooperating with federal immigration authorities,” 47% said they “approve.” Another 44% said that they “disapprove.”
But when asked if they believe so-called sanctuaries in states, cities, and some facilities endanger public safety by protecting criminals, 58% said they agree.
Secrets asked sanctuary state expert Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies for her analysis of the contradiction found in the survey about sanctuaries.

The Center’s policy director told us, “I think many of those who say they approve do not understand how sanctuary policies actually work. They are not benign and do not protect ordinary, ‘harmless’ illegal aliens, or encourage them to report crimes, but instead cause criminal aliens who have been arrested for crimes by local police, and who ICE is then trying to deport, to be released back into the community. The benefits of sanctuary policies are mythical, but pro-sanctuary politicians still tell their constituents that they are needed to protect innocent people from overzealous enforcement.
“It’s interesting that so many of those who opposed sanctuary policies oppose them strongly. Those voters get it!” Vaughan said.
