NextImg:Stephen A. Smith shows he is not the bold, tough guy he portrays on ESPN - Washington Examiner

ESPN talk show host Stephen A. Smith backpedaled faster than an NFL cornerback covering an elite wide receiver.

Smith, known on the sports network for portraying an arrogant, self-assured, self-confident braggart, is, in reality, a coward. He should consider changing his name to “Screaming A. Smith.”

Look no further than Smith’s recent comments about former President Donald Trump.

“As much as people may have been abhorred by Donald Trump’s statement weeks ago, talking about how he’s hearing that black folks find him relatable because of what he is going through is similar to what black Americans have gone through, he wasn’t lying,” Smith said. “He was telling the truth.”

However, the vultures of left-wing political discourse, who regularly tout ideals such as freedom of speech, tolerance, acceptance, and inclusion, sought the exact opposite regarding Smith’s comments. Numerous people and organizations, including the NAACP, vehemently scolded Smith for speaking freely.

But now, Smith has backtracked and apologized. His daily rodomontade is apparently nothing more than a circus act meant to entertain and attract viewers.

“I’m fully aware that I have been in the news the last few days. Paraded all over social media as well after comments I made on Fox News’s Hannity last week,” Smith said on The Stephen A. Smith Show podcast.

“A lot of folks in black America seem pretty pissed with me right now, from friends and loved ones to colleagues, contemporaries, and dare I say, even the NAACP itself,” Smith said. “Quite a few folks were put off, if not flat out offended, after my words were interpreted as associating support for Trump from the black community with all the legal issues he’s facing.”

“For that, I sincerely apologize. To be clear, my words were misconstrued.”

He then tried to justify the reason for his comments by citing numerous articles and polls that showed Trump gaining favor with minority voters, including black Americans. Still, he apologized and said his words were taken out of context.

Smith has been in the news and journalism world for decades. He doesn’t say things out of context. Smith knew exactly what he was saying and meant every word of it. He was just upset that the reaction to his words created more heat than he was ready to handle.

Instead of calling those on the Left for their moral failures, lack of inclusion, fluctuating embracement of freedom of speech, or just one of any number of their hypocritical actions regarding tolerance and acceptance, he cowered in fear. Moreover, he would have never done such a retraction if the people who claimed they were offended were conservatives or Republicans. When the going gets tough, Stephen A. Smith gets going to appease his left-wing overlords.

Smith is a coward. People should recognize this fact and think long and hard before they tune into his programs that put millions of dollars in his pockets.
