Former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham is the latest turncoat to admonish former President Donald Trump. Grisham was hailed as some patriotic hero last night during her speech at the Democratic National Convention. She strongly criticized Trump and claimed that, as a Republican, she could no longer remain silent and chose to love her country over her party. It’s a cute phrase; it’s also meaningless.
It does, however, seem to reflect Grisham’s character and, more precisely, her career ambitions. No one knew who Grisham was before turning on the former president. It’s a safe bet to say that without doing so, she would have lived in political anonymity and never received a book deal or opportunity to speak at a political convention. This doesn’t seem like a love for country; it seems like a love for fame and fortune. Furthermore, it’s also hard to believe she ever had a love for her party.
Grisham may have served under the Trump administration and was, at one point, a registered Republican. But, after her speech on Tuesday and her previous actions, it is hard to believe she was ever truly a Republican. This is because no one who is truly a Republican could ever vote for a presidential ticket featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN). The ideals, values, principles, and culture Harris and Walz represent do not align with someone who is genuinely a Republican in any way.
Grisham cannot champion herself as a Republican yet support candidates that openly embraced rioting, looting, murdering, and burning down communities. She cannot be a true Republican and support candidates who lied about the country’s border being secure and then supported illegal immigrants coming into the country. She cannot be a true Republican and support a presidential ticket that is the genuine threat to democracy that Democrats are.
She cannot be a true Republican and support a candidate for president who publicly expressed her support for Jussie Smollett but said nothing about the tragic murder of Laken Riley. She cannot be a true Republican and support a political platform that embraces such things as toxic gender ideology or men competing against women in sports. She cannot be a true Republican and support a vice presidential candidate who supports squashing the First Amendment and the right to free speech.

Grisham was portrayed as someone who saw the light of Trump’s supposed wrongdoings. In reality, she came off more like a jilted lover seeking revenge and craving attention. It’s hard to believe she loves her party or her country. It would seem that the only thing Grisham loves is herself and the opportunity she received to emerge from anonymity and get a book deal and a speaking slot at a political convention.
It’s easy to believe that Grisham didn’t like Trump and had many opinions on his actions and how he treated people. However, it’s impossible to believe she held sincere Republican ideals and values. And it’s most difficult to believe her choices were fueled by a love of country instead rather than a love of ambition and opportunity.
