The State Department has deleted information for transgender people from the international travel advisory page online.
The International Travel section from the Department of State has a page for “LGB Travelers,” in what was previously an advisory for LGBTQI+ travelers. LGBTQI+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex.
“LGB travelers can face special challenges abroad,” the section reads. “Laws and attitudes in some countries may affect safety and ease of travel. Many countries do not recognize same-sex marriage.”
The State Department then added a section that reads, “Many countries also only recognize the male and female sex markers in passports and do not have IT systems at ports of entry that can accept other sex markers.”

The State Department did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
Since President Donald Trump took office last week, he has issued many executive orders that roll back laws related to transgender people that were enacted under former President Joe Biden. A related directive bans the State Department from issuing passports with “X” gender markers, reversing a policy that took effect in 2022.
Additionally, some agencies have removed entire pages of information regarding transgender individuals.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention removed or edited references to transgender people and gender identity from its website, in order to meet a Friday deadline imposed by the federal Office of Personnel Management, according to the Washington Post. Entire website pages providing information about HIV testing for transgender people, guidelines for use of HIV medication were no longer available late Friday.
The “Let’s Stop HIV Together” page was missing, along with some other AIDS-related pages, but other CDC pages and datasets on topics including COVID-19 and AIDS were still functional.

According to the report, staff at the CDC were given a list of about 20 words and phrases to be used as a “guide” of words to delete, including gender, transgender, pregnant person, pregnant people, LGBT, transsexual, nonbinary, assigned male at birth, biologically male, biologically female, he/she/they/them. References to diversity, equity, and inclusion were also to be removed.
“OPM sent guidance to agencies to remove gender ideology-related content from their websites by 5 pm today as part of the efforts to defend women and uphold the truth of biological sex against the radical claims of gender activists,” Office of Personnel Management communications director McLaurine Pinover said in a statement Friday. “This may have been misinterpreted to mean we would shut down government websites who weren’t able to comply but that is not the plan for continuing to implement this important effort.”
