NextImg:Spotify has no plans to remove Russell Brand's content in wake of sexual assault allegations: Report

Spotify reportedly announced it would not remove content from commentator Russell Brand, contrary to the actions taken by other websites and outlets.

The platform, used for listening to music and podcasts, stated it would only remove content directly in breach of its terms and conditions, not simply over concerns about its author. The statement comes after several rape and sexual assault allegations were made against Brand over the weekend.

Though Spotify has opted not to remove Brand's content, Brand's podcast producer, Acast, has chosen to turn off ads on the show in response to the allegations, as such a decision is allowed to be made by Acast, not Spotify.

Brand being allowed to keep his podcast on Spotify comes after YouTube blocked the commentator from profiting off its platform. It claimed this was over Brand's channel violating its "creator responsibility policy." Brand has a massive following on the platform, with over 6.6 million subscribers.

Four women have accused Brand of sexual assault, which was reported by the Times of London, the Sunday Times, and Channel 4, a British television network. Police in the United Kingdom stated they will investigate the allegations.

Brand has denied the allegations, describing the claims as "extremely egregious and aggressive attacks" in a video.

Beyond YouTube, other media outlets and platforms, including Channel 4 and BBC, have removed content featuring Brand, including episodes of television series in which Brand was a guest star. Publishers are also placing his book deal on hold.
