In case you need further proof that society is being asked to bend over backward to accommodate a loud, statistically negligible minority of transgender people, you need only look at World Aquatics' announcement canceling World Cup races for transgender swimmers.
World Aquatics had decided to create an open category so that transgender swimmers who were banned by the governing body from participating in events based on their biology could still participate. The move was made to address claims that transgender athletes just want to compete as everyone else does, which transgender activists used to defend men competing against and defeating women in women’s sports.

But World Aquatics had to cancel its inaugural transgender open category World Cup because there were “no entries.” Not a single person wanted to participate in this category, apparently including Lia Thomas, the man who delighted in swimming against women in the Ivy League and changing in the same locker room as them.
There are two possible explanations for this. The first is that transgender athletes, particularly men who claim to be women, are using sports to “affirm” their gender confusion and are not driven by a simple desire to compete as activists claim. The second is that there is a statistically insignificant number of transgender athletes, proving that reorienting all of society and sports around them (again, typically men who want to beat women in women’s sports) is a pointless endeavor.

Either way, it should be telling that someone such as Lia Thomas insists on beating women in women’s sports (and changing in front of women in women’s locker rooms) while being nowhere to be seen for an event such as this World Aquatics World Cup. World Aquatics was prepared to jump through hoops just to justify its proper defense of women’s sports, only to find that there was no reason to do so.
Hollowing out women’s spaces, including women’s sports, to accommodate men is unnecessary. So, too, is crafting whole new spaces and categories for a small number of people who suffer from gender dysphoria and claim that they do not adhere to basic human biology. No group has more sway while representing fewer people than transgender activists, and it is past time that institutions big and small ignore them and their anti-science demands.
