Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) failed to win the speakership on his third ballot on Friday, after failing to get the required 214 votes on the floor of the House of Representatives, with 25 Republicans voting against him.
The Ohio Republican saw more defections from the House Republican conference than the second vote and was prevented from being elected speaker. All Democrats voted for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who did not reach a majority of the total vote.
JORDAN PROJECTS CONFIDENCE AS HOUSE REMAINS AT STANDSTILL AND PATH FORWARD MURKY
Jordan, who received 194 votes, only needed to get to 214 GOP votes on the floor to be elected House speaker, because of six absences on Friday. Here are the 25 Republicans who voted against Jordan blocking him from becoming House speaker:
Jordan couldn't flip any Republican defectors from the second ballot after he turned two members who opposed him on the first ballot into supporters on Wednesday.
There were three Republicans who voted for Jordan on the first two ballots but voted for other candidates in the third vote.
The timetable for when a fourth speaker vote will occur is unclear, but several Republicans have said they expect votes into the weekend. The House has been without its constitutionally mandated leader for more than two weeks since McCarthy was ousted in a historic vote that saw eight Republicans join all Democrats in removing the House speaker.
Jordan is the second nominee Republicans have named since McCarthy's removal, as Scalise initially received the nomination from the conference but bowed out when it became evident he would not get to 217 GOP votes. The Ohio Republican has indicated he will not bow out from the speaker's race, protecting confidence at a press conference held prior to the first vote on Friday.

Republicans are expected to go into a conference meeting as Jordan continues to whip votes, a source familiar with the plan told the Washington Examiner.
