Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) couldn't garner the required 217 votes in the second speaker vote on the floor of the House of Representatives, losing more votes than he got on Tuesday.

The Ohio Republican won a majority of the Republicans in the House, but saw numerous defections from the conference, preventing him from being elected speaker on the second ballot. All Democrats voted for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who did not reach a majority of the total vote.

SPEAKER VOTE LIVE UPDATES

Jordan, who received 198 votes, can only lose four GOP votes on the House floor to be elected House speaker. Here are the 22 Republicans who voted against Jordan for House speaker:

Jordan only flipped two Republican defectors to vote for him, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), who voted for McCarthy on Tuesday, and Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN), who voted for Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) on Tuesday.

There were four Republicans who voted for Jordan on Tuesday but voted for other candidates in the first vote on Wednesday.

The timetable for when a third speaker vote will occur is unclear.

The House of Representatives has been without its constitutionally mandated leader for two weeks since McCarthy was ousted in a historic vote that saw eight Republicans join all Democrats in removing the House speaker. Jordan is the second nominee Republicans have named since McCarthy's ouster, as Scalise initially received the nomination from the conference but bowed out when it became evident he would not get to 217 GOP votes.
