Ahead of a possible historic expulsion vote for Rep. George Santos (R-NY) following the House Ethics Committee's report, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said Monday he spoke with the embattled congressman over the weekend to discuss his options.
At an event in Florida on Monday, Johnson spoke about the Santos expulsion resolution, introduced by Rep. Michael Guest (R-MS), the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, and what their plans are moving forward when it comes to holding a vote.

“It remains to be seen,” Johnson said about whether or not they’ll bring up the resolution. “I've spoken to congressman Santos at some length over the holiday and talked to him about his options. But we'll have to see. It's not yet determined.”
This comes after a report the Ethics Committee released that alleged, in part, that Santos used funds meant to support his election to make purchases at OnlyFans, Sephora, and Hermes, get Botox, and that he conspired to falsify Federal Election Commission reports.
The expulsion resolution is currently not on the House schedule, meaning Guest or another member will likely have to notice it as privileged in order for it to receive a vote.

Santos made clear on Friday during an X Spaces conversation hosted by Monica Matthews that he is not resigning and plans to stand for an expulsion vote.
When asked if he told Johnson over the weekend that he would resign ahead of any likely expulsion vote, Santos told the Washington Examiner, “No.”
