A super PAC closely aligned with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and its nonprofit affiliate brought in $16 million in the 10 days after the newly elected speaker endorsed the PAC, easing concerns about the Louisiana Republican’s ability to fundraise big money.

The haul, raised by the Congressional Leadership Fund and nonprofit American Action Network, was both newly contributed and pre-committed donations, according to a source familiar with the matter.

"This significant raise out of the block is a key early sign of support for Speaker Johnson and for keeping the House Majority,” Dan Conston, president of the Congressional Leadership Fund, said in a statement.

The Congressional Leadership Fund has been the main super PAC aligned with House GOP leadership since 2011, but its future was uncertain after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted as speaker. Quickly into his tenure, however, Johnson endorsed the Congressional Leadership Fund and its leadership team, quashing those concerns, but there was still uncertainty about whether Johnson could bring in the money that McCarthy did.

This fundraising haul also helps alleviate concerns about the stability of the Congressional Leadership Fund without McCarthy.

The Congressional Leadership Fund is one of the main backers of Republican races across the country and routinely brings in tens of millions of dollars. In the first six months of the year, while McCarthy was still speaker, the Congressional Leadership Fund and American Action Network combined brought in $35 million, shattering their previous off-year fundraising record of $21 million.
