Monthly Supplemental Security Income payments are scheduled to be delivered to recipients in five days, and the payments will be worth up to $914 for individual filers.

The payment on Nov. 1 will be the only monthly payment sent to beneficiaries during the month of November. There is a scheduling quirk for recipients that is triggered multiple times in a year in which two payments are sent during one calendar month.

The payment amounts for beneficiaries vary depending on their status. For individuals, the rate for payments is $914 per month. The rate for eligible couples for monthly payments is $1,371. Essential persons, who live with someone receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, receive a monthly payment rate of $458.

Benefits are delivered to recipients on the first day of the month. Because of this mandate, when the first day of a month falls on a weekend or a holiday, the Social Security Administration issues SSI checks the business day prior to make sure beneficiaries have the check by the first day of the month.

This requirement creates a quirk in which recipients receive two checks in the same calendar month multiple times a year. However, recipients will still only receive a total of 12 checks per year — one for each month. This year, there are four months in which two payments are delivered under the same month: March, June, September, and December.

SSI payments were first issued by the Social Security Administration in January 1974, and payment rates have increased for cost-of-living adjustments since 1975, according to the agency.
