Supplemental Security Income checks for March, worth up to $967 for individual filers, will be sent out to eligible recipients in 10 days.

On Feb. 28, the Social Security Administration will issue SSI payments to eligible citizens, in accordance with the agency’s mandate that these benefits must be given to recipients by the first day of each month.

This requirement that recipients get their checks by the first of the month means that when it falls on a weekend or a holiday, the Social Security Administration issues SSI checks the business day prior. With March 1 being a Saturday, the payments will be issued the day before.

In 2025, there will be three instances after the March payment of beneficiaries receiving payments earlier due to this rule. The payments for June, September, and November, will be issued earlier than the first of those respective months to ensure recipients have their SSI payments by the start of those months.

The program, run out of the Social Security Administration, gives payments to those living with debilitating disabilities that may affect their income.

The amount that SSI checks are worth depends on a beneficiary’s status, with individuals getting monthly $967 payments and eligible couples receiving $1,450 payments per month. Essential persons, those who live with someone receiving SSI and provide them with necessary care, receive monthly payments of $484 from the program.

The Social Security Administration sent the first SSI payments to recipients in January 1974. Since then, payment rates have been adjusted in line with the cost of living, per the SSA. Supplemental Security Income checks are different from other payments sent by the Social Security Administration.

Regular Social Security payments, mainly for retirees, are issued on a different schedule each month from SSI payments and are dependent on the recipient’s day of birth. Regular retirement checks are sent in three waves each month.
