Rap icon Snoop Dogg recently expressed his unease with what he sees as the increasing presence of LGBT themes and gender ideology in children’s movies, saying he is “scared to go to the movies” with his grandson.
On the “It’s Giving” podcast, Snoop recounted taking his grandson to see Pixar’s 2022 animated film Lightyear, a Toy Story spinoff featuring the famous space ranger Buzz Lightyear. The movie included a brief but notable scene where Alisha Hawthorne, Buzz’s friend and commanding officer, is shown raising a child with her wife.

“They’re putting it everywhere,” Snoop said. “I took my grandson to see, uh, Lightyear… And she had a baby with a woman. Well, my grandson in the middle of the movie was like, ‘Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman.'”

“Oh s‑‑‑, I didn’t come in for this s‑‑‑. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” the rapper remarked.
The rapper admitted he was caught off guard by the scene and the questions it raised.
“It f‑‑‑ed me up. I’m, like, scared to go to the movies now. Y’all throwing me in the middle of s‑‑‑ that I don’t have an answer for,” he said in an exasperated tone.
Snoop voiced frustration that such themes are being introduced to young children, saying, “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
Lightyear sparked controversy worldwide for its LGBT+ representation. The film was banned in several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Malaysia, and the UAE, after Disney and Pixar refused to remove the lesbian couple and their kiss from the movie.

Producer Galyn Susman defended the inclusion at the movie’s London premiere, telling Reuters, “We’re not going to cut out anything, especially something as important as the loving and inspirational relationship that shows Buzz what he’s missing by the choices he’s making.”

Chris Evans, the voice of Buzz Lightyear, also weighed in during a 2022 interview with Variety, expressing frustration that same-gender affection in films “even has to be a topic of discussion.” He added, “The goal is that we can get to a point where it is the norm, and that this doesn’t have to be some uncharted waters.”
Snoop Dogg’s comments underscore the cultural clash surrounding representation in children’s entertainment, with some applauding inclusivity while others worry about exposing young audiences to complex gender and sexuality topics too early.
