Snoop Dogg made his announcement on social media, asking his followers to respect his privacy. The rapper's announcement comes as a growing number of states look to legalize marijuana, with almost half the country already achieving this.

Snoop Dogg's announcement comes after he revealed earlier this year that he was cutting down on his cannabis consumption after becoming a grandfather. The rapper, 51, said he was concerned about how he was living and that he wanted to see his grandchildren "grow old," according to a report.
"The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking?" Snoop Dogg said.

Last week, Ohio became the 24th state to legalize marijuana for recreational use after a majority of voters in the state voted "yes" to Issue 2. The new law, which takes effect on Dec. 7, allows Ohio residents over 21 to possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and up to 15 grams of marijuana concentrates.
Legalizing marijuana has become controversial for several Republican lawmakers, with some looking to halt the process. Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) was able to get enough opposition to stop a bill directing the Department of Veterans Affairs to research using marijuana on problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder. Lankford also organized a letter, signed by 14 other lawmakers, to the Drug Enforcement Administration asking it to reject the Department of Health and Human Services recommendation to reschedule marijuana's classification.
