NextImg:Sinema’s popularity underwater in Arizona, poll finds

A new Arizona poll from Public Policy Polling found Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) is unpopular as she weighs whether she will run for reelection in 2024.

The survey results, provided only to Jezebel via an internal campaign memo from Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), found that 50% of Arizonans surveyed viewed Sinema unfavorably, compared to 27% of voters in the state who viewed her favorably. Gallego, who is likely to be her Democratic challenger, has a 28% disapproval rating and a 39% approval rating.

GALLEGO RAMPS UP ATTACKS AGAINST SINEMA AS SHE CONSIDERS REELECTION BID

The results of the poll reportedly showed Gallego would win with 42% of the vote in a hypothetical three-way race with former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, who was projected to win 35%, and Sinema, who was projected to pull in 14%. The Washington Examiner has not independently reviewed the results of the survey and did not receive a response from Public Policy Polling.

The senior Arizona senator is trailing Gallego in fundraising. She raised $2.1 million, according to her first quarter filing, in comparison to Gallego’s $3.7 million, according to his filing. More than 30% of Sinema’s funding came from five major companies, including investment groups, private equity firms, and hedge funds. However, Sinema benefits from a large war chest with almost $10 million in cash on hand compared to Gallego's $2.7 million, according to campaign finance filings submitted to the Federal Election Commission.

Sinema is considered a vulnerable incumbent heading into the next election cycle, especially after she left the Democratic Party and opened herself up to challenges from both sides of the aisle. There are 34 Senate seats up for grabs in the 2024 election cycle. Of these, Democrats must defend 23, compared to just 11 for Republicans.

The Senate seat in Arizona has been rated a "toss-up" by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, making it one of the most competitive races so far.

Sinema’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
