Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) and Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) plan to visit the Arizona border together during next week's district work period, both offices have confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
The two lawmakers will descend on the U.S.-Mexico border for a bipartisan and bicameral border event that Sinema is leading on.

Neither lawmaker has disclosed the trip publicly, and a spokesperson for Sinema's office did not share who else may attend the trip or what it would entail.
Gonzales is slated to host 2024 Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley in his Texas district Monday. Gonzales, a second-term Navy veteran, represents the largest of congressional districts on the southern border.
The timing of the visit could signal a new effort in Congress to move on border security plans as House Republicans have dragged their feet on the issue despite then-Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) promise last November to make ending the border crisis the body's leading focus in the majority.

Eight border and immigration bills that GOP leadership wanted to fast-track to the House floor have made no progress, with committee markups delayed until late April on the package of legislation.
Sinema left the Democratic Party last December and is seen as a centrist on border security. Sinema and Gonzales have frequently worked on border solutions, as well as with Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), and Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX).
