If fundraising reports are any indication, the Democratic Party’s lawfare campaign against former President Donald Trump is providing his campaign with a gargantuan cash infusion and bolstering his bid to return to the White House.

The Trump campaign announced Monday that it had raised $141 million during the month of May and that 37% of this enormous cash haul was raised in the 24 hours after a Manhattan jury declared Trump guilty of 34 felony charges of falsifying business records.

The massive fundraising haul is notable for two reasons: First, it is quickly closing the funding gap between the Trump campaign and the campaign of President Joe Biden. But secondly, the profile of donors is unlike those that have filled the Trump campaign’s coffers to date.

According to the Trump campaign, the average donation during the month of May was $70.27. To reach the $141 million amount, the campaign received donations from more than 2 million people, of which roughly 25% were first-time donors to the campaign.

If there was any doubt that there would be a groundswell of support for Trump if he was convicted in any of the show trial prosecutions he is facing, the fundraising numbers have put that to rest.

The politically motivated prosecution of Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg may have given the Democratic Party a talking point to use on the campaign trail, but voters are speaking with their wallets and raising serious doubts about whether that talking point will have any salience.

With polling between Trump and Biden proving quite stable even with the guilty verdict, there is little doubt that Bragg’s prosecution is backfiring on the Democratic Party and paving the way for Trump’s return to the White House.

For months, the Biden campaign has flaunted its cash advantage over the Trump campaign and claimed it is proof of support for the president’s reelection. With that talking point now lost, the Biden team and the Democratic Party should be quite fearful about what this grassroots momentum means for November.

By turning Trump into a martyr for the Republican cause, Biden and his allies may have written their script for their own demise.
