NextImg:Should Merrick Garland be impeached? Many Americans say 'yes'

Attorney General Merrick Garland has come under fire recently for leading what appears to be a weaponized Department of Justice.

There appear to be many miscarriages of justice since Garland took over the DOJ. There is an inconsistent application of the law that is seemingly guided by political agendas instead of adherence to the law.

"The hearing, 'Oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice,' will examine how the Justice Department has become politicized and weaponized under the leadership of Attorney General Merrick Garland," read a statement before Garland's testimony.

However, skepticism remained. It was a sentiment that was reinforced after Garland's statements before the House Judiciary Committee late last month. Garland was questioned about a variety of topics ranging from the Hunter Biden case to the federal indictments of former President Donald Trump, the Washington Examiner reported. Naturally, Garland denied wrongdoing and defended the DOJ's actions under his watch.

"Our job is to pursue justice, without fear or favor," Garland said in his testimony before Congress. "Our job is not to do what is politically convenient. Our job is not to take orders from the president, from Congress, or from anyone else about who or what to criminally investigate. As the president himself has said, and I reaffirm today, I am not the president's lawyer. I will also add I am not Congress's prosecutor."

Many people were apparently skeptical of Garland's answers. A recent poll by Rasmussen Reports revealed that "48% of Likely U.S. voters believe Congress should launch an impeachment investigation of Garland." Conversely, 18% of voters were unsure if the attorney general should be impeached, while 35% were against impeaching Garland, Rasmussen reported.

The attorney general is supposed to affirm law and order and demonstrate that no one is above the law, no matter how powerful or influential. The fact that such a high majority of people believe Garland should be removed from office means that he has lost the public's faith. It's not good for the country if a plurality believes that the nation's attorney general is corrupt and in cahoots with President Joe Biden.

Perception is reality, and right now, most people don't trust the Justice Department. That distrust falls on Garland.
