Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) said he repeatedly warned former President Joe Biden‘s staff about Biden’s bid for reelection before bringing his concerns to the former president directly.
During an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Shapiro said he warned Biden’s team about “worrying signs” in the former president’s 2024 reelection campaign but felt staff members did not relay his concerns directly to Biden.

“I made a point to speak to the people around the president repeatedly about what I saw were worrying signs here in Pennsylvania. When I felt that they were not sharing that information directly with the president, I went directly to the president, the former president,” Shapiro said.
The interview comes as former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to release her book, 107 Days, about her 2024 presidential bid on Tuesday. In released excerpts of the book, Harris called the Biden campaign’s move to let the former president and former first lady Jill Biden make the call on whether Biden should run again “reckless.” Harris said she was in the “worst position” to tell Biden to drop out.
“Of all the people in the White House, I was in the worst position to make the case that he should drop out,” Harris wrote in 107 Days. “I knew it would come off to him as incredibly self-serving if I advised him not to run. He would see it as naked ambition, perhaps as poisonous disloyalty, even if my only message was: Don’t let the other guy win.”
Shapiro refused to comment on whether Harris should have directly voiced to Biden her concerns about his reelection bid, telling NBC’s Kristen Welker that she would have to ask Harris that.

Shapiro said he shared his concerns directly with Biden at a coffee shop in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
“I was very direct and very blunt about what I saw were worrying signs electorally about his prospects to be able to win again. I believe in speaking directly to people when I’ve got something to say, and that’s exactly what I did,” Shapiro said.
