Actress Cynthia Nixon is partaking in a hunger strike to call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, where the war between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas is ongoing.

Nixon is only going on strike for two days, with other people partaking in the fasting strike for up to five days. The strike comes after a brief four-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was extended an extra two days.

“None of this is normal," Nixon said on Monday, according to Time magazine. "None of this is routine and none of this can be allowed to continue.”

Nixon, known for playing one of the lead roles in the television series Sex and the City and its spinoff, And Just Like That, said the strike is meant to mirror to President Joe Biden "the kind of deprivation that is happening in Gaza." She added that the president has the ability "to make a ceasefire happen,” according to the Times of Israel.

Outside of Hollywood, Nixon has attempted to enter the field of politics through a 2018 run for the gubernatorial election in New York, running as a Democratic candidate. She lost the party's primary election to then-incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Beyond Nixon, other people participating in the hunger strike include five lawmakers, including Reps. Zohran Mamdanki (D-NY), Mauree Turner (D-OK), Sam Rasoul (D-VA), and Abraham Aiyash (D-MI), along with Delaware state Rep. Madinah Wilson-Anton.

Nixon was one of 260 artists who signed an open letter calling for Biden and Congress to commit to a ceasefire. Another letter, signed by over 300 artists, asked Biden to continue his work on freeing the Israeli and U.S. citizens taken hostage by Hamas.
