NextImg:'Serious ethical baggage': NRSC blasts Democrat running for Senate

The National Republican Senatorial Committee blasted Senate hopeful Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) over previous ethics complaints.

Slotkin announced the launch of her Senate run Monday. She aims to replace retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). Republicans have already moved to counter the decision, painting it as the prime time for Republicans to take her House seat.

REP. ELISSA SLOTKIN ANNOUNCES 2024 MICHIGAN SENATE RUN

"Elissa Slotkin’s departure guarantees this top-targeted seat is even more winnable in 2024,” Congressional Leadership Fund Communications Director Calvin Moore said, according to Politico. “Democrats' tough road to retaking the majority gets even harder as their top recruits continue heading for the exits.”

NRSC spokeswoman Maggie Abboud gave a similar response.

"Elissa Slotkin is a liberal politician with some serious ethical baggage," she said.

In the summer of last year, the nonpartisan watchdog Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust accused Slotkin of “using official taxpayer-funded resources for campaign purposes, making campaign solicitations while in a House office, and a campaign contribution violation.”

Slotkin has positioned herself as a centrist Democrat who is willing to reach across the aisle. She handily won her 2022 midterm race against challenger Tom Barrett in what was one of the most expensive House races.
