NextImg:Sen. John Kennedy claims voters ‘don’t care’ about ‘abstractions’ from Harris - Washington Examiner

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) argued that Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign will not resonate with voters when they cast their ballots this year, as they care more about the issues rather than her “abstractions.”

Kennedy said Harris is not campaigning on her record as vice president because it “sucks” and that people who do the proper research on her are aware of that. As such, she has resorted to sayings such as “the rule of law” and “joy” on the campaign trail to “distract” from her record in office.

“I don’t think most Americans think that much about abstractions,” Kennedy said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle. “They’re too busy getting up every day and going to work and obeying the law and paying their taxes and trying to keep their kids’ morals. I think this election’s going to be decided on the things that moms and dads and voters worry about when they lie down to sleep at night and can’t.”

The Louisiana senator assessed that voters’ biggest problem with the United States in modern times is that it is “harder than ever” to get ahead in life while, at the same time, it is easier to “do nothing.” He contended that Harris does not have a plan to address the factors contributing to that, including the economy and the cost of living.

Kennedy compared the state of the country to a car with a flat tire, arguing that the U.S. is OK but needs to change its leadership.

“The car is OK, but we have a flat,” Kennedy said. “When you have a flat, you fix it. You don’t just drive around for four more years and hope it gets better.”

New polling data on the 2024 presidential race show Harris and former President Donald Trump leading each other in various swing states. The vice president has a lead among likely voters in Wisconsin and Michigan, and her opponent is ahead with the same group in Arizona. In Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Nevada, likely voters are split between the two candidates.

Harris and Trump will have the opportunity to convince voters still on the fence when they debate each other on Tuesday. This debate, hosted by ABC News, is set to have the same rules used by CNN at the debate earlier this year, in which candidates had their microphones muted when it was not their turn to talk. However, the Harris campaign has sought to change these rules to allow live microphones throughout the debate.
