Actress Selena Gomez took to Instagram on Monday to express her emotions regarding illegal immigrants beginning to be deported from the United States.

Deportation and repatriation efforts are in full swing across the country. Since the U.S. Air Force posted photos of illegal immigrants boarding its planes and local law enforcement have confirmed arrests, Gomez posted a video of herself crying over the situation.

“All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t,” Gomez says between tears. “I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

Immediately after, Gomez posted again to her Instagram story, only this time it was a black screen with the words, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.” Both posts were deleted by Monday afternoon.

The viral video received a lot of criticism from conservative commentators.

“Certified moron @selenagomez crying for criminal illegal aliens is really something else,” Outkick host Tomi Lahren wrote on X. “This is why we don’t take our political advice from Disney child stars.”

“I take no pleasure in seeing @selenagomez so distraught over illegal immigrants being deported from the U.S.,” Moms for Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice wrote, “but where are the videos of her crying & promising to do everything she can for the 340k missing children that have been trafficked into America?”

“Remember those who uncontrollably cry for criminals returning to their homes but remain silent for the innocent lives lost at the hands of those criminals,” activist Riley Gaines wrote. “Laken Riley was one of many. Selena Gomez did not cry for her.”

Gaines was referring to Georgia nursing student who was killed on the University of Georgia campus. Jose Ibarra, 26, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela living near campus, was convicted of the murder.

“Illegals of Waverly Place star @selenagomez is an ugly crier,” commentator Steven Crowder wrote.

Even President Donald Trump’s “border czar,” Tom Homan, who is overseeing the national efforts to accomplish immigration policies, had the chance to react to Gomez’s video. Homan offered his response during an interview with Fox News and clarified that no families have been arrested at this time.

“We’re going to do this job. We’re going to enforce the laws of this country. If you don’t like it, then go to Congress and change the law,” Homan said. “We’re gonna keep going. No apologies. We’re moving forward.”

Gomez’s father is Mexican. Despite her pride in her Latino heritage, Gomez recently came under fire for her performance in Emilia Perez, a film released last year that gave her a Spanish-speaking role. Many, including Mexican actors, criticized her halting Spanish and accent.
