Seattle Mariners outfielder Jarred Kelenic said he “let the emotions get the best” of him after fracturing his left foot by kicking a water cooler while striking out against the Minnesota Twins during Wednesday's game.

"I feel terrible, especially for the guys,” Kelenic told reporters through tears. “I just let the emotions get the best of me, and I just let them down. I take full responsibility for it. It's on me."

Following Wednesday’s 6-3 loss, Kelenic’s injury prevented him from playing in Thursday’s game, putting the team down one player as they compete for a playoff spot.

“I love to win,” Kelenic said. “That's the hardest part is that now like I can't be out there to help the guys, and that's my fault.”

Kelenic’s manager, Scott Servais, said he received X-rays Wednesday night following the injury and had a scan done this morning.

The 24-year-old, who made his MLB debut in 2021, struck out in the ninth inning of the game against the Twins and kicked a water cooler in the dugout, resulting in a fractured foot.

The Mariners called up Cade Marlowe, an outfield prospect from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, for Thursday's game. The game will mark the 26-year-old's MLB debut as he replaces Kelenic in the series finale versus Minnesota.
