House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) declined to endorse former President Donald Trump in 2024 when asked Sunday.
Many top GOP congressional leaders in both chambers have opted not to publicly back Trump as the party moves toward a crowded primary process. Scalise commended Trump's record as president and teased he may make an endorsement in the future.

"I haven't made a decision yet. You're gonna know what my announcement is going to be in time. I've been focusing on our house agenda, and we've been moving a really strong agenda for the American people. That's what families want," Scalie told ABC's This Week.
Perhaps the most vocal member of GOP congressional leadership to back Trump publicly has been Chair of the House Republican Conference Elise Stefanik (R-NY). Top Senate Republican leaders, particularly Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), have refrained from backing Trump.
While praising Trump's record, Scalise took note of the other contenders in the 2024 field.
"Clearly, President Trump has a solid record. That is proven. He had our country back on track. We had a strong economy, and everybody was benefiting," Scalise added. "We have other great candidates that are looking at running, and I served with a lot of the folks that are looking at running too."

Scalise emphasized that the Republican work in Congress has been laying out a road map for the next GOP standard bearer.
Trump dominates the 2024 field in terms of congressional endorsements, having earned the backing of roughly four dozen sitting members of both chambers.
