Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AR) expressed excitement for President-elect Donald Trump to make the United States “energy dominant” in the world, arguing this is key for the nation’s security.
President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. would ban new drilling off multiple coasts, prompting criticism from the president-elect and several other Republicans. In her criticism against Biden’s decision, Sanders contended this is part of Biden’s work to undo “as many things on the way out the door” that Trump spent four years building during his first term while expressing relief Biden is only in the White House for another two weeks.
“Not only did Donald Trump make America energy independent, he made America energy dominant, and that is so incredibly key, not only for our financial security, but for our national security,” Sanders said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends. “And this isn’t just something people are talking about in the abstract, whether it’s offshore drilling, which you hear about. But this is something that has impacted everyday Americans from coast to coast, from North to South, because gas prices are up, still, nearly 30% right now since Joe Biden took office.”
Sanders went on to state that voters were feeling the financial impact at the pump and that it is one of “the big reasons” Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris. She noted that people want to return to his “winning and prosperity.”

The Arkansas governor also took a moment to acknowledge how Democrats did not opt to contest Trump’s victory during the certification process on Monday, noting how Democratic lawmakers have not protested the victory of a Republican presidential candidate since 1988.
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy speculated on Monday that Biden’s recent ban on new drilling was due to the president’s intention to punish the nation on his way out because he was upset over dropping his reelection bid last year. Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) also suggested that it was “no surprise” that Biden would make another opposition to energy on his way out, arguing the president has always been opposed to U.S. energy.
