The Washington Examiner's Sarah Bedford suggested that President Joe Biden could lose votes to a new possible candidate.
Bedford appeared on Mornings with Maria Bartiromo on Friday to discuss the possibility of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) running for president in 2024 after he announced he would not be running for reelection in the Senate. While the West Virginia senator has not confirmed or denied a run, many have been speculating what is next for the 76-year-old politician.
BIDEN ON THE BRINK: DEMOCRATS START TO PANIC ABOUT WHETHER THE PRESIDENT IS A SUREFIRE 2024 WINNER
"It's interesting to see the sort of pro-democracy crowd get really nervous now that voters might have an additional choice here. Because I think it's pretty clear Manchin would only take votes away from Joe Biden," Bedford said. "I mean, there are a lot of disaffected voters right now who don't like Donald Trump, about half the country, but who are really dissatisfied with Joe Biden. They're worried about his age. They're worried about how bad the economy has been, the way they experienced the economy, and just looking and seeing all the unrest in American cities, they want an alternative."
There was also the topic of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom Bedford suggested was taking votes away from former President Donald Trump. Bedford pointed to Kennedy's "questioning institutions" and "hampering on mistrust people feel with government" as examples of how Kennedy is more similar to Trump than Biden. According to Bedford, Manchin would be the fiercer competition.

"And Joe Manchin would pose a real threat to Biden by dividing the vote because Trump and Biden are very, very close," Bedford added. "Biden can't afford to lose 2 or 3 points in battleground states to someone like Manchin."
