The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Bedford predicted Maine’s removal of former President Donald Trump from its 2024 ballot will only help him and hurt Democrats.

Bedford appeared on Fox Business's Cavuto: Coast to Coast Friday to respond to Secretary of State Shenna Bellows blocking Trump from the 2024 ballot because she alleged Trump violated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment through his actions on Jan. 6, 2021. According to Bedford, this will only make Trump more popular as a candidate.

TRUMP CAN APPEAR ON CALIFORNIA BALLOTS AS DEMOCRATIC OFFICIAL BREAKS WITH COLORADO AND MAINE

"It's happened every time he faced an indictment or otherwise seemingly been targeted by Democrats and the Biden administration. You know, I think it pushes voters on the fence about him or on the margins into his camp," Bedford said. "Maybe centrist voters or independents who thought Donald Trump was crying wolf about being the victim of witch hunts, they have to concede he is seemingly being targeted by all these different apparatuses of the Democratic machine."

The former president has maintained a substantial lead in the polls for the GOP presidential nomination despite the various indictments against him, which also include federal charges of mishandling classified documents. He has pleaded not guilty to all 91 felony charges against him.

Bedford suggested that the Department of Justice's use of "novel interpretations of the law that have never been tried before" comes across as "a desperate attempt" that could hurt the party. Already, President Joe Biden is facing three Democratic opponents running against him ahead of 2024, including Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), author Marianne Williamson, and YouTube news anchor Cenk Uygur.

"Any objective observer could say that keeping someone off the ballot and denying voters a choice in the name of democracy is a self-defeating situation," Bedford said. "I also think that you don’t hear President Biden and the Democrats talking as much about democracy anymore — they are focusing on describing Donald Trump as a threat himself, how he engaged in insurrection. I don’t think that you hear a lot of rhetoric from Democrats about voting rights or the integrity of democracy and protecting it because that rhetoric would be completely at odds with what we are seeing."

Maine was the second state to block Trump from its ballot. Colorado was the first to do so, also citing the 14th Amendment.
