The Washington Examiner's Sarah Bedford said Friday that "seismic" changes would need to happen in the 2024 presidential race for GOP hopefuls such as Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) to secure the nomination.
Bedford appeared on Your World on Friday to discuss recent 2024 election poll results, in which former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) are leading the rest of the Republican field. Meanwhile, Haley, who announced her candidacy in February, and Scott, who is expected to launch his campaign next week, trail far behind.

"So many seismic changes would have to happen to the political landscape for someone like a Tim Scott or Nikki Haley to get the nomination," Bedford said. "It’s hard to even wrap your head around what would have to happen for them to make up the ground between Trump and DeSantis."
Bedford has been the Washington Examiner's White House correspondent since 2016, spanning Trump's entire first term. In 2016, there were also several Republican candidates that spread the vote for the Republican nomination, which opened the door for the 45th president to secure the nomination. As a result, Bedford predicted the same could happen in 2024.
"What [Haley and Scott] could do is cost DeSantis the chance to move ahead if they dilute the vote in Iowa, in New Hampshire," Bedford said. "That would essentially clear the path for Donald Trump."
