NextImg:Sara Jacobs mocked for wining and dining post in wake of ICE raids

Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) dined at Buona Forchetta in Los Angeles on Sunday to show her support for the restaurant following an Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid.

ICE agents raided the restaurant on May 30 as part of a search warrant that claimed 19 employees there were using fake green cards. There were also alleged employee and labor violations by the restaurant’s owner, according to ABC 10 News San Diego.

Many held protests following the incident, while Jacobs, the granddaughter of tech billionaire Irwin Jacobs, posted a photo of herself dining at the restaurant with wine and pizza on X.

“These immigration raids don’t define us, but our response to them does,” Jacobs wrote on X. “We will continue to stand with our immigrant communities.”

The tone of her own protest, however, provoked much mockery from the Trump administration and beyond.

Alex Pfeiffer, deputy assistant to the president and principal deputy communications director, responded to Jacobs’s post Monday, criticizing her “response.”

“Here is Sara Jacobs, a billionaire heiress, demanding that she has cheap illegal immigrant labor instead of American workers receiving higher wages,” Pfeiffer wrote in a post on X. “Sara enjoys the fruits of illegal immigrant labor, while never experiencing any of the consequences.”

Matt Whitlock, host of the 10 Minute Drill and a former Republican communications staffer, posted under Jacobs’s message, “You, bravely eating a fancy Italian meal,” accompanied by the infamous “Tank Man” image from the Tiananmen Square protests and massacre in 1989.

Will Chamberlain, senior counsel at the Article III Project, wrote, “Nothing like a wood-fired pizza to stand in solidarity with illegal alien rioters, am I right.”

The affidavit from Homeland Security Investigations, unveiled on June 2, provided evidence that the restaurant knew the green cards of those 19 employees were not valid.

Matteo Cattaneo, the owner of the restaurant, insisted his establishment “is a family, not a business,” according to SanDiegoVille.

However, the affidavit revealed complaints dating back to 2020 of Cattaneo exploiting his staff’s illegal status. Cattaneo has been accused of being verbally abusive and forcing these employees to work more than 12 hours without breaks.

NEWSOM TO SUE TRUMP FOR SENDING NATIONAL GUARD TO QUELL FIERY RIOTS OVER ICE

This comes after protests erupted over the weekend in LA, starting on Friday after ICE carried out three raids in the city. Protesters gathered around the Los Angeles Federal Building, demanding an end to the raids, according to the New York Times.

After the protests escalated on Saturday, President Donald Trump ordered 2,000 members of the National Guard to LA to help federal officers with immigration enforcement.
