San Francisco is a comedic kind of city in which residents see and acknowledge all the problems with living there and have thus far refused to do anything about any of them.

GrowSF’s latest poll of San Francisco residents found that 68% think the city is on the wrong track, compared to just 24% who think things are going well. Drugs, crime, and quality of life are the biggest problems, with 94% of people saying homelessness is an extremely or very serious problem, followed by open-air drug use (84%), fentanyl dealing (81%), and crime (79%).

SENATE REJECTS MIKE BRAUN BAN ON MINIBUS EARMARKS

Meanwhile, Mayor London Breed lands an approval rating of 32% with 65% disapproval. The board of supervisors is also underwater, with a 25% approval rating to 63% disapproval. And yet, thus far, the three candidates in the mayor’s race are Breed, one of those supervisors, and the progressive heir to Levi Strauss who ran a homelessness nonprofit group that has made little progress on homelessness.

As Albert Einstein probably didn’t say, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Perhaps more appropriate for San Francisco’s situation, though, is this quote from the hippie parents of Ned Flanders from The Simpsons: “You’ve got to help us, doc. We’ve tried nothing, and we’re all out of ideas.”

San Francisco has been run by Democrats for 60 years and is about to elect another one, probably even the same one who already has a net approval rating of -33. Nothing will change, everyone will complain some more, and voters will eventually replace Breed with another Democrat and start the cycle again. But hey, look on the bright side, San Francisco, at least you aren’t Oakland.
