


Retail crime and shoplifting in San Francisco have reached such high levels that stores are locking their frozen food products in chained coolers.
Images of one Walgreens showed that the location requires staff assistance to access the food, according to a tweet posted Monday.

"Workers said normally shoplifters clean out all the pizza and ice cream every night. They're usually hit 20x a day," the tweet read. "The whole store is virtually locked up."

Accompanying the tweet was a video showing the entire frozen food section padlocked.
Other goods, including cosmetics and snacks, could be seen behind plastic barriers.
Another tweet showed a similar situation at a San Francisco CVS.

Many shoppers and employees decry the new security measures as annoying, with one employee at a Safeway declaring he intended to quit because of the constant stress of unlocking and transporting products, according to a report.
"It's just too much," David MacDowell, the employee, said. "Having to bring things to the front was a game change. Every day, it's like this."
