Special counsel Jack Smith reportedly interviewed Rudy Giuliani for eight hours concerning his role in former President Donald Trump's alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Smith asked Giuliani about former Trump attorney Sidney Powell, among other topics, per a report from the Wall Street Journal.

CALIFORNIA REPARATIONS: HOW LIKELY ARE THE PROPOSALS TO PASS?

Giuliani being interviewed by the special counsel was first reported by CNN last month, but the length of the interview and topics are new revelations in the still ongoing investigation into the former president.

As part of Trump's legal team in late 2020, Giuliani was part of meetings where his team reportedly hatched plans to overturn the 2020 presidential election via lawsuits, slates of fake electors, and other tactics. Trump lost to now-President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, with no evidence of widespread voter fraud that would have affected the outcome of the election having been proved, despite continued claims by Trump.

Smith's investigation into Trump's alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, along with his alleged role in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, remains ongoing. Smith brought federal charges against the former president based on his alleged mishandling of classified documents last month.

Smith has interviewed various state-level officials, per reports, regarding Trump's planned slates of fake electors from different states. ABC News reported in June that it saw Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald and Nevada Republican Party committee member Jim DeGraffenreid going into the federal courthouse where the grand jury for the investigation regularly meets.

Trump is also facing a separate investigation into his alleged attempts to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

There is not a clear timeline for when Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis would bring charges if a grand jury elects to, but she reportedly told judges to limit in-person hearings for two weeks in the middle of August.

When asked about the reported interview by the Washington Examiner, a spokesperson for Smith declined to comment. The Washington Examiner also reached out to a spokesperson for Giuliani for comment.
