Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Tuesday that he was discharged from the hospital.

Giuliani’s vehicle “was struck from behind at full speed” Saturday night, leading to his hospitalization. Ted Goodman, a business associate of Giuliani, confirmed to the Washington Examiner that the former mayor is “recovering well” from the accident.

“He has since been discharged from the hospital and deeply appreciates the love, well wishes, and prayers he has received. The mayor also extends his gratitude to the New Hampshire State Police, paramedics, Elliot Hospital, and all of the physicians and nurses who provided him with outstanding care,” Goodmand said.

Giuliani shared the same statement on his X account Tuesday morning.

Goodman also reiterated that the accident occurred after Giuliani assisted someone, saying, “It wasn’t just an appearance.” Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s spokesman, said the former mayor was helping a woman and remained on the scene until police arrived.

President Donald Trump said Monday that he will award Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom, calling him “the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City.”

Giuliani, who served as New York City’s 107th mayor from 1994 to 2001, became known as “America’s Mayor” due to his leadership during and after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

He will be the 673rd awardee since the Presidential Medal of Freedom’s creation in 1963.
