Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) is challenging Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) for her seat and has bashed her relationships with lobbyists, despite being married to one himself.
Gallego claims on his campaign site that Sinema has "accepted huge campaign contributions from the wealthy and well-connected and in turn blocked legislation" but is asking for contributions to his campaign with a reception in Washington, D.C., later this month with tickets going as high as $2,900, per a report from Fox News.
GALLEGO LEADS SINEMA AND REPUBLICANS IN ARIZONA SENATE 2024 MATCHUP: POLL
The Democratic congressman's wife, Sydney, is the director of government advocacy at the National Association of Realtors and describes herself as someone who is "targeting House Democrats with a focus on Ways and Means and Financial Services" for the interests of "fair and affordable housing, housing finance reform," and "student debt relief," among other topics, per her LinkedIn page.
The National Association of Realtors is one of the biggest spending lobbying groups in the country. The organization spent more than $56 million in 2022, behind only the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and well more than double the third place Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America's $22.38 million.
Gallego also took part in a trip to Qatar which was paid for by the U.S.-Qatar Business Council, a lobbying group, covering roughly $22,000 in expenses for him and his wife, per the Washington Free Beacon.

The report also says Gallego has received $32,000 in campaign donations since 2014 from the National Association of Realtors, among other lobbyists, including those for Amazon, CVS Health, UBS, Raytheon, and KPMG, despite criticizing Sinema in a campaign email for taking $110,000 in contributions from political action committees.
Recent polling shows him leading a possible three-way race between Gallego, Sinema, and a Republican candidate. Gallego had a plurality over several rumored GOP candidates, including Blake Masters, Kari Lake, Karrin Taylor Robson, and Doug Ducey. Gallego is currently the only declared candidate in the Arizona Senate race.
