In his campaign run for the 2024 presidency, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) raked in 19 endorsements from North Carolina Republican state leaders on Wednesday.

North Carolina House Majority Leader John Bell was among the top state politicians to announce his endorsement for DeSantis, the North State Journal reported.

THE MOST CRUCIAL PART OF DESANTIS’S BORDER SECURITY PLAN

“Governor DeSantis is a principled leader, a protector of individual liberties, and the Left’s biggest nightmare,” Bell said in a statement. “He will beat Joe Biden and usher in a Great American Comeback in which parents are empowered, our streets are safe, and our economy is booming once again.”

The 18 other presidential endorsements originated from three state senators — Bobby Hanig, Danny Britt, and Jim Burgin — as well as North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Phil Berger Jr. and 14 state representatives. The list of the state reps included Allen Chesser, David Willis, Dennis Riddell, Jarrod Lowery, Jason Saine, Jeff McNeely, Jennifer Balkcom, Keith Kidwell, Ken Fontenot, Kevin Crutchfield, Matthew Winslow, Sam Watford, Steve Ross, and Wayne Sasser.

North Carolina’s statewide Republican support of DeSantis comes as the GOP presidential candidate picked up 15 endorsements from South Carolina during a campaign stop last week. So far, DeSantis received support from 260 state lawmakers nationwide — 99 in Florida, 51 in New Hampshire, 37 in Iowa, 20 in Oklahoma, 19 in Michigan, 15 in South Carolina, and now 19 in North Carolina.

Notably, last week, North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson was one of the state’s politicians to endorse former President Donald Trump at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference in Washington, D.C.

The latest polls have largely shown that Trump remains the most popular candidate among GOP primary voters. According to a recent Morning Consult survey, DeSantis trails behind the former president by 38 percentage points.
