Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) defended billionaire Elon Musk from allegations of antisemitism, saying while he had not seen a recent post from Musk that critics have decried as antisemitic, he has never seen the tech mogul "indulge in any of that."

Musk has come under fire for endorsing a controversial post on X, formerly known as Twitter, which was decried as antisemitic by several Jewish organizations. On Sunday, CNN host Jake Dapper asked DeSantis to condemn the post, claiming it pushed an antisemitic conspiracy theory. At first, the Florida governor replied by saying he hadn't seen it.

"I know that Elon has had a target on his back ever since he purchased Twitter because I think he’s taking it in a direction that a lot of people who are used to controlling the narrative don’t like," he said. "So, I was a big supporter of him purchasing Twitter. I think they’re obviously still working some stuff up, but I did not see those comments."

After some back-and-forth, Tapper pressed DeSantis to condemn the comments, presenting the post to him. DeSantis asked for further context and said that he hasn't seen any antisemitism from Musk from the time he's known him.

"I have no idea what the context is," DeSantis said when pressed to condemn the post. "I know Elon Musk. I’ve never seen him do anything. I think he’s a guy that believes in America. I’ve never seen him indulge in any of that. It’s surprising if that’s true, but I haven’t seen it, and I don’t want to pass judgment on the fly."

The post referred to was from a user on X who was responding to a Jewish conservative.

"Jewish communties (sic) have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them," the post read. "I'm deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest s*** now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don't exactly like them too much. You want truth said to your face, there it is."

Musk replied to the post with an endorsement, saying, "You have said the actual truth."

"The ADL unjustly attacks the majority of the West, despite the majority of the West supporting the Jewish people and Israel," he elaborated in a follow-up post. "This is because they cannot, by their own tenets, criticize the minority groups who are their primary threat. It is not right and needs to stop."

When pressed to distinguish between the pro-Jewish Anti-Defamation League and the Jewish community as a whole, Musk agreed that "this does not extend to all Jewish communities, but it is also not just limited to ADL."

Critics said that Musk's post endorsed the conspiracy theory that Jewish people are responsible for engineering demographic change against whites in the United States, while defenders said he was pointing to liberal attitudes among Jews.

The controversy extended to the White House, which condemned Musk for allegedly repeating the "hideous lie behind the most fatal act of antisemitism in American history at any time, let alone one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust," White House spokesman Andrew Bates said.
