NextImg:Rogan and Blagojevich slam ‘madness’ and ‘corruption’ of Trump’s legal battles - Washington Examiner

Comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan reflected on the “madness” of the legal battles President-elect Donald Trump faced before the 2024 election, rebuking the “corruption” of these charges with guest Rod Blagojevich.

Blagojevich, former Democratic governor of Illinois, was discussing the legal battle and trial that he faced in the early 2010s that saw him be convicted on corruption charges in 2011. The former governor explained how tapes related to his legal trial were not played after he provided his testimony, calling it “a total f***ing frameup” that was very similar to what Trump has faced over the last two years.

Rogan then contended that multiple factors have affected Trump’s legal fight, including his victory in the presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris, which prompted the cases to be dropped. The podcaster assessed how the “weaponizing” of the U.S. justice system did not avail his presidential bid and that it would have set “an insanely dangerous precedent” had it been effective.

“When you see things like the documents case, or the real estate case, which is the most disgusting one, pretending that Mar-a-Lago that somehow another someone was a victim because he overvalued Mar-a-Lago even though he paid all those loans back and the banks profited from it,” Rogan said on his show, The Joe Rogan Experience. “There was no victim at all, and then they fine him this f***ing insane amount of money and try to say that Mar-a-Lago was worth $18 million?”

Rogan also harshly condemned the lack of pushback the media and news organizations gave Trump’s legal battles, which he attributed to the media’s disdain for Trump. He also questioned the effects these legal battles would have had if they were successful, arguing Republicans could have also used the justice system against their opponents in future elections.

Blagojevich agreed, suggesting the Democrats were “emboldened” by how the justice system was weaponized against him. He added that the party “corrupted the Department of Justice and the FBI,” warning that Trump’s victory in the 2024 election “doesn’t mean we’re safe.”

“The Trump administration, God willing, can do something very serious about this,” Blagojevich said. “If there’s anything that this administration can do to make America great again, it’s to protect our rights and our freedoms and to hold the people that do this accountable and make an example of them. Not to be vengeful, but because it’s just, and because it sends a message to these unaccountable prosecutors who have no check in balance that if they do this and frame innocent people, they’re going to be treated the same way as a dirty cop who plants a burger up to frame an innocent man.”

Blagojevich’s 2011 conviction was over attempting to extort campaign donations from a children’s hospital, as well as attempting to sell former President Barack Obama‘s Senate seat. During his first presidency, Trump commuted the former governor’s 14-year sentence in February 2020, writing on social media back in 2012 that Blagojevich’s sentencing was “outrageous.”

On Wednesday, Blagojevich warned Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) against calling Trump an “adjudicated rapist,” as the governor could get sued and have his law license revoked. His warning came right after ABC News and its top anchor, George Stephanopoulos, reached a $15 million settlement deal after Stephanopoulos said Trump was found liable for rape.
