Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late Robin Williams, described artificial intelligence being used to imitate her father's voice as "personally disturbing."
Williams claimed that she has witnessed people using AI to create actors, or even re-create actors, without their permission, as some actors like her father have since died and could not give their permission to be re-created with AI. Williams's statement comes after her father killed himself in 2014.

“I’ve already heard AI used to get his ‘voice’ to say whatever people want and while I find it personally disturbing, the ramifications go far beyond my own feelings," Williams wrote in an Instagram story. "Living actors deserve a chance to create characters with their choices, to voice cartoons, to put their HUMAN effort and time into the pursuit of performance.”
Williams also added that AI re-creations of actors, including their voices, are "a poor facsimile of greater people" at best and "a horrendous Frankensteinian monster" at worst.
Tom Hanks, an Academy Award-winning actor, has also voiced his concerns about AI, stating on social media that a dental plan commercial was using an AI version of himself and that he has "nothing to do with it."

AI was a major reason that writers in Hollywood went on strike for nearly five months this year. The strike ended last week after the writers were granted various agreements, including protection from studios from mandating writers to use AI when writing a script.
Beyond protection from AI, writers were also granted increased pay, bonuses based on how well a show does on streaming, and a minimum number of writers required for a television series.
