NextImg:RNC chairman suggests Democrats could win ground if they quit infighting

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley argued that the Democratic Party’s “radical wing” is giving President Donald Trump an advantage, which will continue so long as the party is under the control of its “radical” members.

Whatley’s comment was in response to leaked audio of Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin questioning his ability to continue his leadership role, as well as venting to Vice Chairman David Hogg at having “destroyed any chance I have to show the leadership that I need to.” Amid the DNC’s vote to keep Hogg as vice chairman, which will conclude on Wednesday, Whatley said the “radical” control of the Democratic Party will continue not to appeal to voters, who ultimately want “solutions” from their elected leaders.

“President Trump’s delivering every single day to rebuild the economy, restore our borders, make sure our kids and our communities are safe, and that America’s going to be strong,” Whatley explained on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “That’s what the American people want. The Democratic Party is fighting that tooth and nail. If they spent half as much time fighting for the American people as they do against each other, they may start to get some traction.”

Ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, Whatley spotlighted the “opportunity” the Republican Party has leading up to these key elections. He suggested that if Congress can successfully pass Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” the Republican Party can use its “opportunity” to properly compete in the cycle once “the economy starts rolling again.”

Whatley acknowledged that “there’s no such thing as a red wave,” a reference to the Republican Party performing far worse than expected in the 2022 midterm elections despite winning back the House of Representatives. However, he noted that there are 13 Democrat-controlled districts that Trump carried, arguing that the voters in these districts want “a commonsense, America First agenda.”

DNC VOTE ON DAVID HOGG’S FATE UNITES DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENTS

Hogg has not mentioned the vote on whether to oust him as DNC vice chairman on X, instead discussing the riots in Los Angeles and Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to “stomp out dissent against mass deportations.” Hogg also said that while he and Martin have disagreements, they are both working “to build the strongest party possible.”

Last week, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) detailed how the Democratic Party is “very close” to experiencing “a progressive takeover.” Going forward, the party’s “game plan” will be to have “20 years of progressive Democrats” in leadership positions, similar to the period of time when “centrist, corporate Democrats” made up most of the Democratic Party under former President Bill Clinton.
