Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) has demanded donors withhold donations to Columbia University over its inaction on antisemitism and the pro-Palestinian protests happening across campus.

Scott also asked for members of Columbia leadership to resign for allowing antisemitism in the wake of the Hamas terrorist attack on Oct. 7. Schools and colleges across the United States have seen an uptick in protests held in support of Palestinians, resulting in many Jewish students and teachers concerned for their safety.

“If you’re a donor to Columbia University, stop,” Scott said in a Sunday radio interview. “If you’re a board member, if you’re not going to hold your administration accountable, you should resign. Because what you’re doing by doing nothing, you’re allowing antisemitism and hatred to go on.”

Scott added that protesters who are attacking Jewish people ought to be jailed for violating the law. He also called for people who support Hamas and hate the U.S. to “get the hell out of our country.”

The Florida senator also used his time on the radio to criticize President Joe Biden’s handling of various issues affecting the U.S., including the “intentionally open” southern border. Scott stated that the U.S. has had Biden as its leader for over three years, during which the country has undergone high inflation and the outbreak of various wars across the globe under his watch.

“I mean, we cannot take more of this, more of the Joe Biden America,” Scott said. “It’s horrible for every family in this country.”

Scott’s criticism of Columbia came a couple of days after the school banned Khymani James, a 20-year-old pro-Palestinian student protest organizer, from its campus after it was reported he made violent remarks toward Zionists. A university spokesperson said that violence and statements targeting people “based on their religious, ethnic or national identity are unacceptable and violate university policy.”

The White House has also condemned the statements made by James, stating that it is “hideous to advocate for the murder of Jews.”
