Hollywood actor Richard Gere traveled to Capitol Hill this week to fight for freedom for the people of Tibet from Chinese oppression.

The Pretty Woman star railed against Chinese "cruelty" against the Tibetan people and urged the United States to unite around Tibet's autonomy. The longtime human rights advocate joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX), for a press conference outside the Capitol on Tuesday.

Inside the Capitol, Republicans scored legislative victories this week with the Senate passing legislation to end the COVID-19 emergency as President Joe Biden had to soften his stance on a veto threat. House Republicans also passed a major piece of legislation, HR 1, to counter Biden's energy agenda and to increase domestic production. Four Democrats joined Republicans in passing the Lower Energy Costs Act, while centrist Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) voted against the bill.

A flurry of Biden Cabinet officials testified before Congress this week, including Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who was grilled by Republicans about border security.
