NextImg:Republicans to grill Christopher Wray about unanswered questions in these three investigations

House Republicans are set to grill FBI Director Christopher Wray on various matters they believe bureau is failing to meet expectations, including with investigations surrounding three individuals.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has said he "remains concerned about the politicization of federal law enforcement power emanating from FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.," and Wednesday's hearing provides an opportunity for those concerns to be directly expressed. Here are three individuals the House GOP still has concerns about regarding the FBI's handling of investigations into these people.

Hunter Biden

The son of President Joe Biden has been a topic of concern for various House committees, with regard to how several executive branch agencies have handled investigations into the younger Biden.

Wray is expected to be questioned on alleged retaliation against whistleblowers who have alleged misconduct on the Hunter Biden investigation, along with other concerns the House GOP has around the son of the president. He may also be asked about claims from an IRS whistleblower that the FBI knew the infamous Hunter Biden laptop was authentic in 2019, before its contents were first reported by the New York Post a month before the 2020 election.

Donald Trump

Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee are expected to grill Wray on investigations into the former president, including the search on his Mar-a-Lago residence in August 2022 in relation to a classified document investigation. While the investigations into Trump were handed off to special counsel Jack Smith, Jordan and other GOP members of Congress are expected to question how the agency handled the investigations.

Republicans are also expected to ask Wray about the report by special counsel John Durham into the origins of the investigation into alleged collusion between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.

Durham concluded in the report that "based on the evidence gathered in the multiple exhaustive and costly investigations of these matters," including the special counsel's inquiry, "neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation."

The Trump-Russia investigation was launched prior to Wray being appointed as head of the bureau, but House Republicans are seeking answers about changes the agency made to avoid a repeat of the Trump-Russia investigation.

Joe Biden

Wray is expected to be questioned about the president and specifically what the bureau has done with an FD-1023 form allegedly detailing claims of a bribery scheme between then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national.

The FBI has resisted turning over the unredacted FD-1023 form, which is a typically an informant report, instead offering a redacted version to lawmakers. Republican congressmen have demanded the FBI release the form, which includes the allegations.

Wray will testify during a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee at 10 a.m. on Capitol Hill.

The House Judiciary Committee and its subcommittee on alleged weaponization of government, has been investigating the FBI since the GOP took power in the House earlier this year.
