NextImg:Republicans shouldn't be pandering to woke corporations

There are plenty of questions to be answered for the GOP ’s future, but one thing has been made absolutely clear: the days of Republican politicians pandering to woke corporations should be behind us.

Nikki Haley , who is nominally running for president but is more likely running to be former President Donald Trump’s running mate, decided to do the opposite in attacking Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). DeSantis, of course, has been butting heads with Disney over the corporation’s demands that children be taught about sexual orientation and gender identity in school and over Disney’s special privileges that it is trying to protect by circumventing the state legislature.

“If Disney would like to move their hundreds of thousands of jobs to South Carolina and bring the billions of dollars with them, I’ll let them know I’ll be happy to meet them in South Carolina and introduce them to the governor and the legislature that would welcome it,” Haley said . She added that, “if you take care of your businesses, you take care of your economy, your economy takes care of the people, and everyone wins.”

Yes, everyone wins, except for everyday conservatives who then become the cultural targets of woke culture warriors at corporations like Disney.

The whole feud between DeSantis and Disney started because Disney wants third graders to be taught about sexual attraction and gender transitions in school. Haley has decided to side with Disney in that dispute, which is, frankly, a poor means of gaining Republican voters' support.

She is not the only one in the Republican field who thinks the party should side with woke corporations. Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson was beholden to Walmart during his tenure, telling the legislature to weaken a bill to protect religious liberty (after promising he would sign it) because Walmart demanded it. Hutchinson is also taking Disney’s side in Florida because once you start pandering to woke corporations, you just can’t stop.

And then there is the Trump campaign. Former President Donald Trump is rooting for Disney to punish DeSantis and Florida. Meanwhile, when Anheuser-Busch partnered with transgender TikTok poster Dylan Mulvaney, a man who mocks women by acting like the caricature of a woman, Donald Trump Jr. jumped in to call on conservatives to ease off the company. Let them mock women and promote an “influencer” who pushes transgenderism to a young audience because otherwise they won’t give us money.

If woke corporations can simply throw money around and get you to bend the knee, you should not be the GOP nominee for president. The last several years should have made this crystal clear: Republicans should no longer be pandering to woke corporations that hate them and their constituents.
