Former Texas Republican Rep. Mayra Flores is preparing to reclaim her House seat following her loss in 2022.

Flores became the first Mexican-born woman in the House in 2022 when she won a special election, but lost five months later to Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX). Though she lost by 8.5 percentage points, the National Republican Congressional Committee commissioned a poll that showed her chances of taking back the seat greatly improved. The NRCC is looking to have her run again, but Flores herself is still undecided.

BIDENOMICS: HOW THE STOCK MARKET HAS FARED UNDER BIDEN'S PRESIDENCY

"Politician Vicente Gonzalez's long career of collecting a taxpayer salary without delivering for South Texas is about to come to an end. Keep an eye on this prime GOP pickup opportunity in South Texas that's ready to be flipped red," NRCC regional press secretary Delanie Bomar said in a statement.

In a statement from Flores on her Twitter account, she said she is “praying about [a 2024 campaign] with my family, friends, and supporters, and will make a decision soon.”

The NRCC poll found that Flores is slightly ahead of Gonzalez, at 42.4% to the incumbent's 41.7%. She fares much better among independents, 50.2% compared to Gonzalez's 30.8%. Flores also holds an advantage in terms of favorability: 43% of likely election voters view her favorably, compared to just 29% who view Gonzalez favorably.

"TX-34 is one of the top pick-up opportunities for Republicans in America. Mayra Flores has already proven she can win, and new polling shows she remains popular," the campaign memo read.

Democrats claimed the poll was "dubious," and touted the 2022 election results as assurance that Flores would lose in a rematch.

"While the NRCC tries to convince Flores to run with dubious polling, the 2022 results speak for themselves," C.J. Warnke, a spokesman for House Majority PAC, tweeted. "#TX34 rejected @MayraFlores2022's extremism, and @VoteVicente has a proven record of lowering the cost of medicine, protecting Social Security, and expanding Medicare."

Perhaps teasing her decision, Flores shared several tweets touting the poll, including one from the NRCC, which read, "Vicente Gonzalez, call your office."

Flores has remained active on social media since her ousting.

The NRCC poll, conducted by 1892, surveyed 439 likely general election voters from May 24-26. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.67 percentage points.
