NextImg:Republican hopeful launches AI chatbot to answer questions about campaign

One of the Republican hopefuls has embraced artificial intelligence by using it to answer questions about his campaign, the newest innovation in the 2024 presidential election.

A super PAC supporting Miami Mayor Francis Suarez launched an AI chatbot on Wednesday to answer users' questions about Suarez's campaign. The technology will listen to user inquiries and attempt to point them to videos answering queries about Suarez's agenda. The bot appears only to have a few prepared answers typed out to date. However, the animated version of Suarez has been crafted to look like the candidate and answers questions in his voice.

“Hi, I'm AI Francis Suarez," the bot said in its introduction. "You’ve probably heard that my namesake, conservative Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, is running for president. I’m here to answer questions you may have about Mayor Suarez’s proven agenda for economic prosperity, cutting spending, and supporting our police. So, how can I help?”

When asked about Suarez's plans regarding China or antitrust policy, the bot failed to recognize the question and promoted Suarez's record in improving Miami's economy.

When asked why Suarez is running for president, the bot changes its appearance to that of fellow 2024 hopeful Ron DeSantis to mock him.

“I’m AI Ron DeSantis. Listen, I know conservative Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is concerned with saving America’s economy, supporting our police officers, keeping American communities safe, and standing up to China,” the bot says. “But I want to talk about the single greatest threat to American families today. Mickey Mouse. Yes, Mickey Mouse. Run for your lives." The bot's remarks are in reference to DeSantis's culture wars and legal battles with Disney over its more liberal LGBT policies.

Generative AI has become a more common tool in the 2024 Republican election. Former President Donald Trump, DeSantis, and the Republican National Committee have used A.I.-generated images in their political advertising to attack the opposition and to paint images illustrative of their points. Some analysts have argued that such advertising campaigns could be used to spread misinformation and deceive voters.

Suarez has been struggling in the polls since his initial announcement. He has failed to register in major national polls, according to RealClearPolitics.
