State Department spokesman Ned Price revealed that the repatriation of the two Americans killed in Mexico is underway.

Price underscored that the United States has been collaborating with Mexican authorities to investigate the kidnapping of four Americans last week as top Republicans urge the Biden administration to take a harder line against Mexico and the drug cartels.

US IN TOUCH WITH FAMILIES OF AMERICANS KILLED AND KIDNAPPED IN MEXICO, WHITE HOUSE SAYS

"We're continuing to work very closely with our Mexican counterparts. On this, we've asked Mexican officials to fulfill the family's wishes for the remains to be repatriated as expeditiously as possible. As of earlier today, that process was still underway," Price said during a press conference Wednesday.

On March 3, four Americans were taken hostage at gunpoint while traveling from Brownsville, Texas, to Mexico for a medical procedure. Two were found dead on Tuesday, while one was unharmed and the other was wounded. The White House confirmed it has been in contact with the families of those killed and kidnapped.

Price declined to say whether the department received additional information about why the four Americans were apprehended, citing the ongoing investigation. He also emphasized that the U.S. cautions against travel to the region near Matamoros where the four were kidnapped by cartel members due to safety concerns.

"This is an area that we categorize as a level four — we have a level four travel advisory, meaning that Americans should not travel to this particular Mexican state because it is dangerous. We have seen incidents of criminality, of violence, and we certainly don't want to see Americans unnecessarily in harm's way," Price said.

Recently Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) announced he will introduce legislation to designate multiple cartels as terrorist organizations and "set the stage to use military force if necessary to protect America from being poisoned by things coming out of Mexico."

Price is set to depart from his role as spokesman for the department and move to a policy-oriented role. During his press conference, he also reiterated U.S. condolences to the families of the two killed Americans.

"We express our deepest condolences to the families to the loved ones of the two Americans who were killed in this," Price added.
